A start to some of the confusion.

To start this blog i think a good topic to think of is a classic syfy movie that most everyone young and old have seen. I (of course) am referring to star wars. This is a great Hollywood classic with many scientific elements to it. There is inter-space travel, futuristic weapons, and much more. All of which may or may not be possible or true. Recently, a special was run called "Star Wars Tech" by the history channel where scientists and movie critics took light as to what was seen by viewers and what could or is already used in the science world. I felt that even as a young person in the science and engineering community this show did a relatively good job on looking objectively on the topic of the science in the movies and breaking down for most people how it worked, if it worked,  and when/if the tech is already available. They break down things such as light sabers, tie fighters and much more. The history channel runs this program so i am also including a link to the history channel site.

For more information on the History channel program This is a link that takes you there.

Is simplicity the answer???

For this blog I have chosen to attach two videos. For the past classes we have discussed they responsibility of scientists and engineers as far as communication. Much of what we have covered is geared toward "dumbing it down"  so that the average reader/viewer can understand what the science is while not missing the actual science involved. I have my own feelings about this thought  process in general however I feel the first video is a simple representation on how simplistically some people view science or how simplistic it may have to be in order for people to understand. the second is a small clip on communication and where being to general or simplistic can get you into trouble Hope yall enjoy the videos attached.....

Welcome

This blog is going to be about the facts and errors in media that are seenn by thhe public everyday and may or may not be noticed. The thought for this topic has come over watching many media productions (movies, t.v. shows) and seeing the leaps that are made.

Background: I am currently a student in a communicating science class while pursuing a degree in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering.

To The Readers: This is my first time blogging. I will do my best to make educational and fun posts to keep you all coming back. Comments are welcome and encouraged. This may be offensive to some and given that this is an adult blog language and material may be offensive. With that said I will try to be professional and objective in my posts and with how i convey the information.

This is just a very brief intoduction to the site. I look forward to posting and hope you enjoy what is to come....
